I strongly believed that equal pay must equal to same energy expended physically and mentally. Consequently, men and women in the same field of endeavor must be rewarded equally. The men and women in the profession of lawn tennis simply referred to as tennis must get the same blessing. My observation of this great and exciting sport is that women play a total of three sets compared to their male counterparts playing five sets.

The pay out for the championship 2014 Australian open for men(won by Stanilas Wawrinka) and women(won by Li Na) were respectively $2.65m USD and the pay out for Wimbledon 2014 open for men(won by Novak Djokovic) and women(won by Petra Kvitova) were respectively 1.76m British pounds as well. But guess what? The women can only play a total of three(3) sets while their male counterpart can play up to five(5) sets. Do I have any problem with the ladies playing only three sets, Nope! On the other hand, do I have any problem with gents playing five(5) sets, Nope! The issue is “Equal work Equal Pay” period.

Do the Math folks? 2014 Australian open, ladies championship maximum of 3 sets, pay out 2.65m USD. Gentlemen championship maximum of 5 sets, total pay out 2.65m USD. 2014 Wimbledon championship, Ladies maximum of 3 sets, total pay out 1.76m British pounds. Gentlemen championship maximum of 5 sets(Djokovic Vs Federer, Djokovic won), total pay out 1.76m British pounds. When and where in Mathematics is 3 equals 5 or 3sets equals 5sets? I am not a mathematician but common sense can come into play here, let us even the “sets” at five for both men and women and let the pay out stand as it is. I will be the last person to allow any system to discriminate against any woman with the same credential as her male counterpart doing the same work. Where is fairness, equity and justice folks? I love Serena, Venus, Li, Maria, Victoria etc but I also love my boys Rafael, Novak, Roger, Gael, Tsonga etc as well. The world tennis players body……ATP must and should look into this problem or discrepancy immediately and provide a lasting panacea. Please do not rob Serena to pay Rafael and vice versa? “Do what is right to both our female and male homosapiens tennis players to keep the game we all love so much going.” Your take?
