The welfare program was designed to help the “needy”. The qualification for thy needy is rightly scaled considering the depth of poverty within some community. No doubt some people are taking advantage of the program knowing fully well they do not qualify for the benefits offered. Should the program be abolished? My candid response is NO. Just like one of the earlier responses, it should be modified to block all possible loopholes. It is jaw dropping when you taking a closer look at the life of some of the unqualified benefactors of the welfare program – they drive expensive cars and live in affluence neighborhood. We cannot because of these few disgruntled elements deprive the needy of this sole source of livelihood. Abolishing the program would not necessarily improve productivity.
