The number one factor holding down development in Africa is corruption.Without knowing it,corruption is a way of life in Africa.Corruption goes beyond money and monetary transactions.Nepotism, tribalism, ethnicity, oppression, suppression and favouritism are factors thereby. The African life rotates around the above factors, which are precursrors to greed and grabmania.Corruption kills fairness, industry and excellence.Fine minds do not dabble into things that will undermind integrity. So,the medoicres, the shameless take the front burners in all important community and national affairs. And the winner takes all syndrome is the bedrock on which corruption festers.Mundane things are emphasized as success in the African context. So anyone who gets opportunity via appointment, contract,or employment is reminded of how others who got such opportunities made use of them.A chain is created and the syphoning continue unabated. That is why Africa as a continent will be held down for long, until there is a change in the appraisal system, paradigm shift and mental focus.
